¡Ubi no necesita otra operación ahorita! / Ubi doesn’t need another operation right now!

Lisbeth me llamó hace un rato para decirme que los resultados de la angiografía mostraron que la otra aneurisma no sangró como pensaron originalmente, gracias a Dios.  Lo que averiguaron es que la arteria que tiene la aneurisma grande está tapada, por eso van a hacer un procedimiento el lunes para aclarar la arteria para que la sangre fluya bien.  ¡Gracias a todos por sus oraciones!

Por otro lado, Lisbeth está investigando la oportunidad estudiar en una universidad pública en Cali.  Ella suspendió sus estudios en Caracas para poder venir a Colombia para ayudar a su mamá.  Ubi trabajó para pagar la universidad de Lisbeth, y ahora que ella no puede trabajar, obviamente las cosas se ponen más difíciles.  Sería una gran bendición si Lisbeth pueda ir a la universidad pública que no cuesta mucho.  Es un gran proceso, pero estamos esperando que todo salga bien.

Lisbeth called me a bit ago and told me the results of the angiogram showed that the other aneurysm did not bleed as they originally thought, thank God.  What they did find out is that the artery that has the large aneurysm is clogged, therefore they are going to do a procedure on Monday to clear the artery so that the blood will flow normally.  Thanks to all for your prayers!  

On another note, Lisbeth is looking into the possibility of studying at a public university in Cali.  She suspended her studies in Caracas so that she could come to Colombia to help her mom.  Ubi worked to pay for Lisbeth to go to college, and now that she can’t work, obviously it makes things more difficult.  It would be a huge blessing for her to be able to study at a public university that costs much less.  It's quite a process, but we're hoping this will work out for her.

Ubi se cayó y ha estado hospitalizada de nuevo / Ubi fell and has been hospitalized again

Lisbeth me informó que el domingo, 9 de enero, Ubi se paró en la madrugada, intentó a caminar sola, y se cayó muy duro.  Salió un chinchón gigante en la cabeza en el mismo lado de la aneurisma que no ha sido tratada todavía.  Esto le causó mucho dolor, comenzó a vomitar cada rato, y la llevaron a la clínica mas tarde en la mañana.  Se la hospitalizó en ese momento para observarla.  Ya que está tomando un anticoagulante por la trombosis que tuvo en el pie, hay más riesgo que sangre la aneurisma.  Hoy, hicieron algunos exámenes (ya que ayer fue un día feriado en Colombia), y encontró que la otra aneurisma de hecho sangró e iban a hacer mas exámenes esta noche para determinar si vaya a tener que operarla.  Lo que entiendo es que no puede tratar esa aneurisma por un tratamiento endovascular por que averiguaron antes de la última cirugía que las venas en el cerebro están demasiado estrechas para ese tratamiento.  Estamos esperando que no tenga que hacer la cirugía ahora porque sería muy duro para Ubi ya que no ha tenido oportunidad recuperarse de la última cirugía.  Su médico había dicho que podría tener la cirugía en unos años después de recuperarse completamente.  Les pido que se reúnan en oración para Ubi conmigo en este momento crítico.

Lisbeth let me know that on Sunday, January 9th, Ubi got up very early in the morning, tried to walk by herself, and she fell very hard.  She immediately got a huge bump on her head on the same side as the aneurysm that hasn’t been treated yet.  This caused her a lot of pain, she started to vomit every once in a while, and they took her to the clinic later that morning.  They hospitalized her for observation.  Since she is taking an anticoagulant for the thrombosis that she had in her foot, there is more risk that the aneurysm bleeds.  Today, they ran some tests (since yesterday was a holiday in Colombia), and they found that the aneurysm did, in fact, bleed, and they were going to run further tests tonight to determine if they would have to operate.  From what I understand, they cannot do an endovascular treatment on this aneurysm because they discovered before the last surgery that the veins in her head are too narrow for that.  We are hoping that she does not have to have the surgery now because this would be very tough for Ubi since she hasn’t had the chance to fully recuperate from the last surgery.  Her doctor had sad that she could have the next surgery in a few years after fully recuperating.  I ask you all to join me in prayer for Ubi right now in this critical moment.

A Ubi le da de alta / Ubi is released

El 10 de diciembre, a Ubi le dio de alta del centro de recuperación, y se quedó con nosotros por cuatro días.  Entonces, Ubi y Lisbeth se fue para Cali el 14 para tener el apoyo de su familia allá.  Están quedándose con la cuñada de Ubi que es enfermera, y ella ya ha contratado una terapeuta para hacer terapia física con Ubi dos horas por día.  Lisbeth me dice que Ubi está haciendo muchísimo progreso con la terapia.  El ojo derecho ya está abriendo un poco, y ya está apoyando el pie izquierdo.

On December 10th, Ubi was released from the rehab center, and she stayed with us for four days.  Then, Ubi and Lisbeth went to Cali on the 14th to have the support of their family there.  They are staying with Ubi’s sister-in-law, who is a nurse, and she has hired a physical therapist to do therapy with Ubi two hours per day.  Lisbeth tells me that Ubi is making really good progress with the therapy.  Her right eye is opening a little already, and she is now able to put pressure on her left foot.

Ubi fue transferida a un centro de recuperación / Ubi transfers to a rehab center

El 6 de noviembre, Ubi fue transferida a Proseguir, un centro de recuperación.  Ya estuvo mucho mejor, pero todavía no pudo mover su lado izquierdo ni abrir su ojo derecho.  Ese lugar era para darle oportunidad tener mucha terapia física mientras seguían monitoreándola.  El único malo es que está muy lejos de nuestro apartamento, lo que nos hacía muy difícil visitarla.  Lisbeth fue a visitarla todos los días, pero demoraba hasta dos horas en llegar e igual para volver.

On November 6th, Ubi was transferred to Proseguir, a rehab center.  She was already much better, but she still could not move her left side nor open her right eye.  This was a place for her to have lots of physical therapy while they continued to monitor her.  The only downside is that it was very far from our home, making it very difficult for us to visit her.  Lisbeth went to see her every day, but it took up to two hours to get there and the same to get back.

Alrededor del fin de octubre, cuando iban a darle de alta, Ubi tuvo una trombosis en el pie izquierdo.  El lado izquierdo es el lado que está paralizado (temporalmente) como resulta de la operación, y tuvo que quedarse más tiempo en la clínica hasta que se mejoró el pie.  Tiene que tener una inyección de un anticoagulante por seis meses para tratar la trombosis.  Ya está mejor, solo hay que tenerlo pendiente.

Around the end of October, when they were going to let Ubi out of the hospital, she had a thrombosis in her left foot.  Her left side is paralyzed (temporarily) as a result of the operation, and she had to stay longer in the hospital until it got better.  She has to have an injection of an anticoagulant for six months to treat the thrombosis.  It’s already better – they just need to keep an eye on it.
